food for thought

director/Writer/Producer

Winter 2018

Helping the community one meal at a time.

Food for Thought is a story about a frustrated and once failed psychology graduate, Julian.  He operates a food truck on the campus of a local university while he searches for a new opportunity in his field. As Julian becomes embedded in the community, he becomes a resource for the students as they lean on him for his guidance and share their issues. Along the way he picks up a sidekick Isaac, a struggling student with a passion for food, to help him run the operation. As Julian begins to realize the magnitude of the role he plays in the students’ lives he discovers that maybe the path he is searching for is the path he is already on.

Meet the crew

Samantha Geis

Director/ Writer/Producer

Hi! My name is Samantha Geis and I am from Manasquan, New Jersey. I am a Film and Television Major and Animation Minor at the Savannah College of Art and Design. I am the Director, Writer of my short senior thesis film, “Food for Thought” is a Dramatic-Comedy/Slice of Life film that covers the topic of what someone thinks they want versus what they truly need. I am really excited to share this story with everyone because I believe it is a theme that a lot of young ambitious people can easily relate to. I am hoping that my film can provide hope and can inspire those who share a similar story, to open their eyes and be fully open to the many unexpected forms of happiness that life has to offer.

Vivian Griefahn

producer

I’m Vivian Griefahn and I'm from Hamburg, Germany. I'm majoring in Film & Television at SCAD as well as minoring in Producing for Film & Media. I'm one of the Producers for the Short Film "Food for Thought", which means I take care of all the planning and pre-production needs that are needed to successfully bring this story to life. I'm really excited to be a part of this project, as I believe it's a story that hasn't been told before, while focusing on the importance of friendships in a tragic but comedic way of matter. Most of my experience comes from producing and directing other short films, as well as television sitcoms. After graduation I plan on moving back to Germany and work at a major production company.

Rachel kerby

Rachel Kerby is originally from Huntington Beach, California. She is a Junior studying Film & Television at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Her experiences at SCAD includes Camera Coordinator on The Buzz television sitcom, which won “Best Scripted Series” at the College Television Awards in 2017, as well as having produced and crewed on numerous short films. Following graduation, she plans on working her way through the production system at a major motion picture company.

Walter Trujillo

Director of photography

My role in Food For Thought is Cinematographer. I have the duty to illustrate Sami’s idea as best as possible on the screen to create the visual story that it deserves. As I finish up my time at SCAD, this is a great project to capstone it all because of the possibilities and challenges that we face in and around a food truck. I am absolutely certain this crew will deliver everything they have and beyond for this project to be shared with the world properly. I cannot wait to share one last wrap party with all my friends.

Connor hagan

Gaffer

My name is Connor Hagan and I'm from Newark, Delaware. I'm majoring in Film & Television at SCAD as well as minoring in Acting for The Camera.
